Moody Bible Institute Symphonic Band

The Moody Symphonic Band, conducted by David Gauger II of the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, will be performing on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 6:00 pm at Lake Hills Baptist Church, Schererville, IN.

Founded in 1970, the Moody Symphonic Band is comprised of qualified Students from the Institute's undergraduate division. Their repertoire, includes band and orchestral concert music as well as hymn and gospel song arrangements of both traditional and contemporary styles. The Band ministers in various churchs across the country twice a year, and has also toured internationally in Hong Kong, China, Central Europe, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Israel.

David Gauger II, a native of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, is conductor of the Moody Symphonic Band and Coordinator of Instrumental Instruction at Moody Bible Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Wheaton College and a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University.

From 1983 to 1994, Mr. Gauger was principal Trumpet of the Tulsa Philharmonic; from 1980 to 1983, he was Printicple Trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic and toured to Singapore, Bankok and Osaka. Mr. Gauger was a member of the Grand Teton Musical Festival Orchestra during the summers of 1983 to 1990 and has played extra trumpet with the Oklahoma Symphony and recorded with the Sain Louis Symphony. Since 1997, he has been Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. Since late 1999, Mr. Gauger has played extra substitute trumpe regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and most recently toured with the CSO to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. He joined the Moody Faculty in 1994 as Artist/Professor of Music. In addition to his duties with the band, he coaches small ensembles and teaches music technology, instrumental conducting, church music courses and applied trumpet.

The Moody Bible institute, founded in 1886 by evangelist D.L. Moody, is a non-denominational college that educates and trains men and women for Christian service. It is an accredited member of the Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges (AABC), the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), and North Central Association (NCA). The Music Department has been an intregal part of the Institutes's curriculum since its founding. In addition to the Symphonic Band, Moody has three other touring groups: The Women's Concert Choir, The Men's Collegiate Choir and the Chorale.
