What To Expect

Welcome to Lake Hills

We would love to invite you to join us for our worship services on Sunday Mornings. We know that visiting a new church for the first time can be a bit uncomfortable. We strive to make you feel welcome and right at home. We have friendly greeters ready to welcome you and help direct you when you walk in our doors.

We thought it would be helpful to answer a few questions you might have as you plan your first visit. Please stop by the Welcome Desk in the lobby and fill out a Next Steps card. We would be delighted to talk with you!

  • What time do your services start?

Some of our church gathers at 8:30am and some gather at 11:00am. Both services are essentially the same. Between services we have Sunday School for children and Bible classes for adults.

Every 5th Sunday, we celebrate Pack the House Family Sunday with one service only at 11:00am. Child care is provided up to age 4. Adult and kids’ Bible classes will still meet at 9:45am on these Sundays.

  • What happens in a service?

While both services are essentially the same, the 8:30 AM service lasts about an hour and the 11 AM service often lasts a little over an hour. God calls us to worship Him through singing, reading His Word, prayer, the Lord’s Supper, and preaching the Bible. About half of the service is preaching, where (mostly) Pastor Jacob seeks to clearly explain and apply the Bible to our lives.

  • What should I wear?

There is no set dress code for what God wants people to wear when they gather together. Some people are more formal and some people more casual. Our Pastors often dress in what is called “business casual,” but that is not a requirement.

  • What are the people like?

We have a very friendly, welcoming church. I think you will find people to be genuine and encouraging. Many people say they notice genuine love and faith here at LHBC.

  • Will I be asked to give money?

We have an online giving platform as well as an offering box in the back for our members and regular attenders to give. If you are a visitor, please do not feel obligated to give.

  • What do my kids do?

    • During the 8:30 service a nursery is provided, but kids classes aren’t. Parents who want to keep their children with them in the service usually attend the 8:30 service.
    • We have a nursery (0-18 months) and toddler class (18 months – 5 years) for the Sunday School hour, as well as the 11:00am service, in the main building.
    • We have Sunday School classes for our kids (5 years – 6th grade) in the Student Center.
    • Also during the Sunday School hour, the Alive group (7th grade – 12th grade) meets in the Student Center.
    • During the 11:00am service we have a Kidz’ Church in the Student Center for kids 3 years – 6th grade.
    • Our friendly greeters will be able to direct you to the appropriate location for check-in and drop off for the kids.
  • Why baptist?

We know the word “baptist” has cultural baggage for many in NW Indiana. We happily pray for the health and growth of other churches in our area, baptist or not, and consider every church that believes and teaches the Bible to be on the same team. For us, Jesus is our identity, not being baptist. But Jesus also tells us to be baptized, and we take His command seriously. In fact, we believe the Bible teaches that every Christian should be baptized by immersion to show what Jesus has done in their heart.

  • Do you have coffee?

12 Stones Café is in the Student Center, where you can get a coffee or cold drink and a snack before the Sunday School hour. Many of the Adult Bible classes during the Sunday School hour serve coffee and donuts in their class as well.

  • Any other questions?

If you have any other questions about our church, please feel free to call the church office at (219) 365-4747, email our office directly at lakehills@lakehillsonline.org, or send a message using our Contact Form.
